The Myth of the Robber Barons

"One reason for studying history is to learn from it. If we can discover what worked and what did't work,  we can use this knowledge to create a better future."

"The problem is that many historians have been teaching th eopposite lesson for years. They have been saying that entrepreneurs, not the state, created the problem. Entrepreneurs, according to these historians, were often "robber barons" who corrupted politics and made fortunes bilking the public".

Modern historians have usually de-emphasized entrepreneurs in describing American industrial developmen.

No recent historians has systematically traced the history of the American steamship industry.

Why is it that today we haven’t learned much of the implications that means government intervention? And continue asking for more?
